I don’t know about you but I am over this hot weather and ready for the cooler months. This heat wave seems to have no end in sight, making me overly excited for the fall season! Fall and winter are my two favourite seasons; fall because of the fashion and winter because I am Canadian and LOVE the snow (the colder the better in my eyes)! I start dreaming of the fall season fashion trends pretty much as soon as spring starts to come around, I love it that much. And this year is no exception. I have some staple fall pieces that I carry over from year’s past because in my eyes, they are less of a trend and more of a staple; oversized sweaters and over the knee boots. So this year I wanted to round up the new trends I am loving and the pieces on my wish list!
Capes
This year, the one fall trend I am really looking forward to are capes! I have been seeing cape sweater dresses everywhere and it is getting me so excited! Paired with the perfect boot, this ensemble will be perfect to take you from workday to weekend. I have a cape coat and blazers that I love, as they help me channel my inner Olivia Pope (check out that post here), and was so happy they were coming back again this year! They are so flattering and chic, you can’t help but fall in love with the fit.
Here are some of my fall inspirations… a cape dress paired with boots, an evening gown for wedding or Christmas party, or the perfect ensemble for a girls night out (this I am absolutely recreating)!
Voluminous Sleeves (Bubble Hem)
Ever since I was little, I always said that I was born in the wrong era. My soul is old and my taste and fashion choices are right along side of it. So, the fact that ’40s fashion is making a come back just speaks to my soul! So this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone when I say that I have been all about this trend for the last few year’s! These bubble hem lines can make the simplest piece, like this white button down, so elegant and chic. If you haven’t caught on my now, my style leans more towards the edgier side of things, as I love anything that is off cut, textured, or printed. So it is only natural for me to go above and beyond with this trend this fall!
Here are some fall pieces I have my eye on… This would be stunning with this skirt, this mock neck or bow blouse with white trousers would be perfect for the office, this crop blouse paired with a high waisted skirt would pair beautifully for a dinner date or an evening gathering, or this dress for a Christmas party.
Jewel Tones
Highlighter colours have been a big trend for me this summer, so it is no surprise that I will be taking on all the colours that fall has to offer. And these jewel tones are no exception. I love (and try) to incorporate as much colour in my wardrobe as possible as it compliments my personality and where I feel the most confident. The colours this fall are yellow, green, magenta, and rose; which I don’t hate! These are all colours that I already love and mix together, so you can only imagine the heyday I am going to be having this fall! It is going to be young and wild and I can’t wait!
Here are some my fall inspirations… I have a couple of coat dresses that I love to wear to events where I am not sure what the dress code is and this one would be perfect in situations like that!
Couture Tailoring
Now this is the trend I have been waiting for, for years! The tuxedo is making a come back and my 1940s soul is beaming! Every time I started a new school year, I always focused on investing in a suit for the upcoming interview season. And every year I never purchased one because everything was either boxed fit or basic and I was looking for something more tailored and trendy. So I went in a different direction and created my own using separates from Spanx, Rebecca Minkoff, and All in Favour (more on that here). It is definitely one of my favourite looks but I am ready for a new go-to; perhaps with exaggerated shoulders or tapered waist!
Here are some fall pieces I have my eye on… Ruffled Skirt, a tapered pant paired with a draped top would be chic for the office or a presentation, a vest or blazer with a pant or pencil skirt would be perfect from office to weekend.
With all the fun colours, cuts, and capes coming, this season screams ‘me’ and I simply cannot wait for things to start coming in! I am getting so much inspiration from all the sneak peaks that I feel like this is the first season in a long time, where I want to buy everything! Versatility is at the forefront this season and I couldn’t be happier. Showcasing a little something for everyone, this is going to be a great year for fashion and I can’t wait to see everything come out over the next month!
Let me know what trends you are excited about or trends you don’t want to see make a come back!
